Chemical dominoes board game
Purpose: The purpose of this project is to create an interactive board game that highlights the chemistry principles we learned. Through this proccess we were required to teach the audience about the principles and what is happening with them. These six principles included single replacement reaction, double replacement reaction, production of a gas, chemical change in energy, mechanical change in energy, and lighting an LED.
How to play: Our project was originally based off the game Sorry, but then changed into more of a rudegolberg. The players had to make there way around the board game and as the played they would land on spots where they would have to pull a card. These cards would tell you to do certain chemical reactions around the board game. Once all the reactions are complete you can make your way back to your starting position. The first player back to the starting possition wins the game.
Design: In the begging of our project we were mainly focused on the game aspect of the project, but as the projects time began to come to an end that changed. Our grouped started to focus more on the chemical reactions that needed to happen and decided to do a rudegolberg type of layout. This layout featured a board game with an "x" with a cirlce in the center and a tower with a lever in the center. One side of the lever had our production of a gas which was calcium carbonate and sulfuric acid which inflated the balloon to tip the lever(also chemical change of energy). When the lever was tipped it poured copper chloride into silver nitrate and created a yellow color, which was our double replacement reaction(also mechanical change of energy). When the lever was tipped it also made contact with a piece of metal and connected a circuit which lit an LED. On the other opposing side we had our single replacement reaction which was.....................With this design we covered all aspects of the project with no limitations.
Conclusion: In conclusion this project had its ups and downs but in the end our group managed to finish the project with all the requirements. Our group worked well toward the end of the project collaborating and delegating tasks to accomplish the goal. However in the begging of the project our group wasn't too sure of the task and its parameters so we were not very productive. In the future we should come up with a better outline of what the task is and what goals and deadlines are required. This will ensure that not only we stay productive but we accomplish all of our tasks on time and too our best abilities.
