DIY Water Saving System
Creative engineering was the fourth and final project for our first semester. The task for this project was to identify a world issue and research why it was an issue. The next step for the project was to design a system that would aid to the resolution of this problem. Matt, Anabel, maddi, and I decided that we would research and develop a solution for droughts. We thought this issue was fitting for this assignment because Marin county was in one of its record droughts for the past couple of years. Not only did we focus on the drought that we were having in Marin we decided to look at the issue in a global sense. We researched other countries drought data so that we could seehow they have delt with the lack of rain fall. We concluded that it would be too difficult to try to start a buisnees that would travel around the world helping people make wells or water catures, so we took another look at the problem. We decided to make a user friendly DIY kit that anyone could install.
This drought saver system features not only a water storage tank but a back up electrical system. This will allow you to live off the grid for extened periods of time. It features optional gutter and rain collector, wind turbine, AC battery bank, control panel, earth quake stabilizing system, water pump, filter, and measuring rod. In addition we made this system user friendly by making it available at your local hardware store and its compack design allows you to bring it anyware (depending on the size of the tank you buy). This system was not only designed to save your life it also gives you the freedom to live off the grid. In addition if we were to have continued with this project we would have worked on recognizing the issue on a global scale.
Reflection:
This project helped me recognize not only problems we have here in the united states but also around the world. I think that the project went well because not only I, but the other group members participated equally. In addition I think that I communicated my idea of the DIY storage tank well to my other group members. I think that I could work on taking more time in the researching stage of this project in order to see what other people had done. In conclusion I think that it would have not only benifited me but my group if we had documented the process more often. Overall I think that the project was a success and could be used in a real world application.
