research
The physics of sports was the second project in our stem class. In this project the goal was to find all the physics of a sport. For our groups sport we originally were going to find the physics of motorcross, but we decided that we didn't have enough time to complete the project. We then decided to find the physics of paintball which worked with our time constraints. With our plan set we proceeded to analyzing the concepts of paint ball. This means we investigated all the possibilities of areas that we could collect data for equations. Before our group could begin to collect data we had to make a plan of the specific areas we wanted to analyze, and how we would follow through with this. We set up three main tests to help us collect data and anwser questions we had about the physics of paintball. The first test was the 28ft target which we analized short range accuracy, next test was the 44ft target which we analized the long range accuracy, and finally we did a ball drop experiment whiched we analized the time that that ball dropped in.
Development
The physics of paintball video that my group and I made consisted of 3 main elements, accuracy, optimal distance for shot, and force on target/PSI. Our video focusses on these three elements because they are some of the most important elements of a succsessful shot. Although paintball guns are belived to be inaccurate we found that the paintball gun had a 50% hit rate on a 1 foot target, which isnt bad. We found these measurments by firing six shots at each target and then counting the ones that hit the center of the target. From this information we concluded that if you hold your gun at a 90 degree angle, 30-45ft away from your target you will get the optimal hit rate that will improve your game. The force that the paintbvall has on the person is equally important because it will decrease the oponents accuracy rate due to the impact that the ball has on the person. In addition the PSI is one of the most imortant elements of paintball because it increases your accuracy which increases the force of the paintball, that causes it to break.
main concepts
Force:
Force was a main component of our project because it was a recurring theme with every test we did. Measuring force was also important to anwsering many questions we had about paintball.
short target: F(out of barrel)=.294, F(on target)=11.37~about 2.5 pounds of force
farther target: F(out of barrel)=.294, F(on target)=9.48~about 2 pounds of force
Velocity:
Velocity was a main component of our project because it wa a reaccuring theme with every test we did. measuring velocity was also imortant to anwering most of the questions we had about paintball.
short target: V=56.89
farther target: V=56.89

reflection
Overall i felt that our team did well as a group, but there are some things that I did well on,and things I could improve on. I feel that I gained new skills such as better decission making skills and video making skills. At the beginning of the project we assigned a team member to the editing part of the project but we all chipped in to help get the final edits done. Throughout the project we had a hard time making discissions on scenes and songs which I feel helped me grow as a student. Some things that I think could use improvement are my ability to focus and my ability to prepare for the project. Throught the project I had some times when I could not focus on the task at had because we had finished our project and had few things to do. In addition I feel that I could have been more prepared for our filming day so that we had more time to film. In conclution I felt that our project contained good details of the physics of paintball with the time constaints we had.
