Alu PV92 PCR Lab
Purpose:
The purpose of this lab was to discover what type of alu gene we have by using a agarose gel electrophoresis.
Hypothosis:
If I properly find my alu gene using the agarose gel electophoresis, then I will find out if I am heterozagous or homozagous

Results: My results are located in the second row on the left, as you can see that row is blank. This means that I did the lab incorrectly and or somthing went wrond during the experiment. This could have happend because I added kelex beads to my dna, extracted my dna incorrectly, or I did not add a chemical that was needed.

Analysis: Since I did not get results that means I don't know if i am +/-,+/+,-/- for the alu gene. If the orange line were above the midline I would have been +/+. If there were two lines above and below the midline then I would have been +/-. If the orange line were below the midline I would have been -/-. My hypothesis is niether incorrect of correct because I had no results to determine if i was heterozygous or homozygous.
Conclusion: When I did the lab I did not discover what alu gene I had because no results showed up with the uv light. There are many reasons why I did not get results, I could have incorrectly extracted or added dna, kelex bead got added to my dna, or I did not mix the right amount of chemicals. If I were to re due this lab I would double check each step before I procceded with the step, and double check with partners or teacher to make sure I was doing each step correctly. I will use these suggestions in future labs so that I can try to get the best results possible.
